  • Universal 2Q Income Slips to $13.6 Million
    Universal Truckload Services Inc. reported second-quarter net income declined to $13.6 million, or 45 cents per share, compared with $14.2 million, or  47 cents per share, a year ago.
  • Nancy Bailey, Longtime Editor At Transport Topics, Dies at 68
    Nancy Coe Bailey, a longtime editor for Transport Topics Publishing Group, died July 4 after an extended illness. She was 68.
  • Swift Transportation Net Dips 19%
    Swift Transportation Co. said net income slipped 19% to $40.2 million, hurt by weaker profit margins at its dedicated and refrigerated units.
  • FMCSA, OSHA to Work Together on Coercion Claims
    The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration have signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at strengthening coordination between the agencies in investigating truck driver safety, coercion and retaliation complaints against motor carriers.
  • Echo Reports Higher Second-Quarter Income
    Echo Global Logistics' first-quarter net income rose 2.9% to $4.2 million, or 18 cents per share, from $4.1 million, or 18 cents per share.
  • FMCSA Sued Over Information in Driver Inspection Reports
    The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has "intentionally or willfully" improperly disseminated truck-driver inspection reports that contain references to violations not classified as "serious driver-related safety violations," according to a lawsuit filed by six independent owner-operator truck drivers.
  • US-Nafta Trade Up 5.4% in May
    U.S.-Nafta trade in May increased 5.4% over the same period a year ago, aided by continued reliance on trucking, according to TransBorder Freight Data released today by the U.S. Department of Transportation.
  • Covenant's Net Income Rises to $3.8 Million
    Covenant Transportation Group reported its second-quarter net income doubled to $3.8 million, or 25 cents per share, from $1.9 million, or 13 cents, a year ago.
  • Court Approves OOIDA-C.R. England Settlement
    A Utah U.S. District Court judge has approved a settlement requiring motor carrier C.R. England to pay a class of independent-contractor truck drivers $3 million in damages and attorney fees for alleged "truth-in-leasing" violations.
  • Caterpillar's Profit Rises to $999 Million
    Heavy-equipment maker Caterpillar Inc.'s second-quarter profit rose to $999 million, or $1.57 a share, from $960 million, or $1.45 a year ago, but sales declined.
  • Knight's 2Q Income Rises 36%
    Knight Transportation's second-quarter earnings rose 36% to $25.8 million, or 31 cents per share on higher demand.
